A New Roof for Leeds Town Hall posted 20 Jun 2019

A New Roof for Leeds Town Hall

Work on replacing and refurbishing the roof and iconic clock tower of Leeds Town Hall began in October 2018 and will continue until November 2020. The current roof dates back to the original structure of the Town Hall which was completed in 1858.

From Monday 3 June 2019 until September 2019, the Victoria Hall is closed to the public while the roof of the auditorium is replaced. Refurbishments to the Victoria Hall roof includes soundproofing to help eliminate external noise pollution for our events.

In keeping with the original design the roof, tiles across the building are being replaced with Welsh slate. The roof refurbishment also includes a restoration and update for the chandeliers in the Victoria Hall and Vestibule. They will feature new LED bulbs which will be fully dimmable with colour options to enhance flexible lighting states, and comply with our commitment to the environment.

The chandeliers will return to the Victoria Hall and Vestibule after the roof work has been completed, which is expected to be at the beginning of September 2019.

There are images of the roof works in the Gallery tab above, and this page will be updated with more images as the work progresses.

Scaffolding is supplied by IBN Scaffold Access Ltd.
